Environment Search Names Top 30 Entries

Negros Occidental (PIA, 6 February 2007) -- Thirty entries each are vying for Most Environment Friendly School and Barangay among 61 school and 43 barangay entries.

Now on its third year, the Environment-Friendly Search was launched in 2003 aimed to mobilize Negrense to take an active role towards environmental conservation and call for vigilance on environmental protection. This is also to give recognition to the schools and barangays that made contributions to the environment which others can emulate.

The Screening and Evaluation Committee assess the entries based on their submitted documents and field evaluation, which determines the top 30 entries.

Selected entries for both categories are already winners since the top 25 of the 30 entries are entitled to P10,000 each and the top 4 finalist will be receiving P50,000 each while the Most Environment Friendly School and Barangay are given P100,000 each.

The search is now on the process of judging the selected entries and will culminate in time for the Provincial Environment Week on June 2006.

For the Barangay category the thirty entries include the following barangays: Tibsoc (San Enrique), Suay (Himamaylan), Rizal, Bolanon, Fabrica, (Sagay), Sagasa, Don Jorge Araneta, Dulao (Bago), Quezon, Brgy. 3 (San Carlos), Payao (Binalbagan), Delicioso, Bocana (Ilog), Zone 6, Zone I (Pulupandan), Castellano (Calatrava), Brgy. 3, Alicante, Brgy. I (E.B.Magalona), Chambery, Brgy. I-A, Brgy. II -A (Manapla), Dos Hermanas (Talisay), Brgy. Tuyom (Cauayan), Brgy. III (Pontevedra), Brgy. Caduhaan (Cadiz City), Brgy. XVIII-A (Victorias City), Brgy. Tabao Baybay (San Enrique), Jonob-jonob, Cervantes (Escalante City).

The entries for school category are as follows: Bacuyangan Elementary School and Asia Elementary School (Hinobaan), Talubangi Elementary School (Kabankalan), Carabalan (Himamaylan), Camalandaan, Si-alay, Man-uling Elementary Schools (Cauayan), Ara-al and Roberto S. Benedicto Elementary Schools (La Carlota), Patic Elementary School (Pulupandan), Alfredo E. Marañon Elementary School (Sagay), Libas and San Agustin Elementary Schools (Isabela), Tortosa, Chambery, Manapla Elementary Schools (Manapla), Delicioso Elementary School (Ilog), Medina and Florentina Ledesma Elementary Schools (San Carlos), San Enrique Elementary School (San Enrique), Rita Lovino, Alicante Elementary Schools (E.B.Magalona), Harbort Elementary School (Calatrava), Cartagena Elementary School (Sipalay), Ma-ao Sugar Central and TM Morada Elementary School (Bago), Hinigaran Elementary School (Hinigaran), Cabacungan Elementary School (La Castellana), Minoyan Elementary School (Murcia), and Pandanon Elementary School (Don Salvador).

This project of the Provincial government through its Provincial Environment Management Office is well supported by the different Local Government Units and the different schools all over the province since it's launching. The program is in line with Gov. Joseph Marañon's 7-point agenda in promoting advocacy for environment conservation in the province through schools and barangays in pursuit of "A better environment for every Negrense".
