Welcome To Barangay Tibsoc

Barangay Tibsoc is one of ten barangays (smallest political unit) in the town of San Enrique, Negros Occidental in Visayas, Philippines. It is located near the sea along the highway from San Enrique to Pontevedra. Its major industries include fishing, oyster culture and fishpond management. Its fishpond areas total 100 hectares. During the summers it has a salt industry. Its 100-hectare wide mudflats are rich in shellfish, and is a home for migratory birds from the months of October to March. The barangay also has an ongoing mangrove reforestation program supported by the Provincial Environment and Management Office (PEMO).

I currently serve as Barangay Captain of Tibsoc, which under my leadership has twice won the award Most Environment-Friendly Coastal Barangay for the province of Negros Occidental in 2005 and 2007.

Our Barangay is recorded in history books as the site of a battle between Filipino rebels under Papa Isio and American soldiers in 1902. It has been surveyed as early as Spanish-American times.

This blog is Tibsoc's unfolding story.
